What is your method? |
Initially, the process begins with an evaluation of your child’s readings skills, using standard reading assessments, personal observation and interaction with your child.
Input from you, the parents, and your child’s teachers, is also vital for me to get a better understanding of your child’s strengths and weaknesses. Then, based on your child’s instructional needs and goals, I will develop an individualized education plan, customized to help your child make progress. |

The Wilson Reading System is designed for students who struggle with decoding and spelling. It is appropriate for students who have not yet internalized the sound/syllable system. If students are unable to decode accurately, know many words by sight but are unable to read new words, are poor spellers, have been unsuccessful or moderately successful with other reading programs but continue to have some reading/spelling difficulties, they will benefit from this program. The program targets students of all ages. ESL students who speak and understand English but are unable to read or write it also benefit from it. Supplementary instruction in reading comprehension will accompany decoding and spelling lessons. Students will benefit from this program whether or not they have been diagnosed with a specific reading disability.

What happens in a
|
All lessons are different - the only thing typical about any lesson I give is that it is uniquely tailored to your child.
|
Where do lessons take place? |
Lessons can take place in Charlottesville at my office, your home, or a quiet public location.
|
Can lessons be scheduled at our convenience?
|
Yes. Tutoring is available six days a week at times that are convenient for your child.
|
My child just isn’t motivated. Can tutoring help? |
It certainly can. Sometimes when a student gets behind and feels discouraged, he stops trying, which causes him to get further behind and more discouraged. Partnering with me reverses this spiral. By working with the me, your child will see that he can do some of the work. This will make him feel a little better about himself, and then we'll work together to start working a little harder, achieving more, until your child becomes more encouraged to work harder, until he can eventually work independently with success.
